Anka Batič was driving along the road in Dole near Idrija. When she was thinking about the best excuse for being late for a meeting, she had no idea what would happen to her a few kilometres further on. In an otherwise calm atmosphere, the car approached the forest. Anka, as a careful driver, was watching the road through the windscreen and also the mirrors on the left and right side of the car. However, when she looked in the rear-view mirror, her attention was stolen by a small tail that whizzed over the edge of the road, into the woods. She stopped a little further on, in a safe place, and got out. She told herself that if he was a kitten and needed help, she would give it to him.
And just as she was walking a little expectantly to where she saw the tail, she heard a mewing. She saw a little kitten asking for help. In the middle of the forest, with no houses around, this kitten was completely lost. She immediately took him in, and the little furry ball was completely undaunted by such kindness. She had a white bucket in her boot, in which she put her scarf and the furry kitten on top of the scarf. She even had a few pieces of mortadella with her, which she immediately gave to the kitten, but she wasn't quite sure if mortadella was suitable for such a kitten.
So the kitten, wrapped in a ball, lay in a bucket on Anka's shawl and slept all the way to its new home. Later that day, they visited the vet. He examined him and advised on what food he should eat to start with.
Not only did the cat get a new home and the warmth of a friendly rescuer, but he also got a new identity. He started to sound like Kazimir. But he never "disturbed the peace" as he was a well-mannered and grateful cat. For a good two years he was a true master of his new home. He stood up for all the other cats in the village, chased mice and other animals smaller than him, and often lounged lazily in his territory. But he also liked to explore the surroundings and anything else that came under his paws and snout. But ... as he came, so he went.
One day, he simply didn't come home, or his name was no longer relevant. And so the days went by when Kazimir was nowhere to be found. It was hard to accept that he would probably never show up again. But there was still hope somewhere, and every now and then the eye thought it saw a little tail swishing round the corner of the house.
