For the fourth year in a row, we have carried out an activity at our school Secret Santa, which is aimed at fostering a positive atmosphere, mutual connection, and strengthening good relationships within the team. This year, we've further enhanced the activity and linked it to the project's values. 5 televisions, with which we wanted to further emphasise the importance of shared values in our working environment.
In November, Secret Santa invited us to participate via email. Those who signed up had to state their favourite colour. In December, participants drew out a person from the collective. Our task was to think about this person and prepare a small gift for them (within a certain budget and in their favourite colour). Upon drawing, everyone received an envelope containing a description of five Slovenian values, a leaf and a sticker.
On the attached sheet, based on the description of values, we have written down how these values are reflected in the person we drew. In this way, we reflected on the positive qualities of colleagues and linked them to values such as cooperation, respect, and mutual support.
At our school, it's tradition to get together for lunch a day or two before the Christmas and New Year holidays begin. We also invite retired teachers and other former staff members who were part of the collective. We do our Secret Santa after lunch. It always brings lots of smiles, laughter, hugs, and heartfelt thoughts. This year, however, we were more touched by a note on a slip of paper that came with a gift than by the gift itself, as we saw how someone who was our Secret Santa perceived us.
The main aim of the activities undertaken was to further deepen the understanding and recognition of the key values within our collective, which is already distinguished by strong interconnectedness. With the planned activities, we aimed to build upon existing bonds and more decisively strengthen a culture of respect, collaboration, and open, positive communication among all colleagues. We believe that consciously nurturing these values forms the basis for successful work and a supportive working environment in which every individual feels heard and valued.
