POSTER What happens when trust breaks down
Objective Understanding trust as a relationship.
Activity
- Discussion in a circle or work in pairs.
- Questions: How is trust built? How is it broken? Can we rebuild it? Emphasis: Trust is built slowly, broken quickly.
Foreword (10 minutes):
The teacher initiates a discussion in a circle or in pairs:
- What does trust mean?
- When do we need them? (friends, family, classmates, teachers)
- When was the last time you trusted someone? How did it turn out?
The teacher writes keywords on the board: building trust, destruction, rebuilding, responsibility, honesty.
MIDDLE SECTION (25 minutes)
Instructions for working on the poster
- Students work in pairs or small groups.
- On the poster, they draw or write:
- How trust is built (actions, behaviour, honesty).
- How trust is broken (lying, betrayal, not keeping agreements).
- When and how can we repair it (apology, change in behaviour, time).
Questions for reflection and help:
- Building trust
- What does trust mean?
- Getting a job done to the best of my ability, being reliable by doing what I say I will do, always telling the truth, and following through on promises are all actions and behaviours that help build trust.
- How long does it take for trust to develop?
- Who all contributes to being able to trust someone?
- Breach of trust
- It means that trust has been broken.
- Lying, breaking promises, betrayal, dishonesty, and lack of transparency can quickly erode trust.
- Who is affected by the loss of trust?
- How do we feel when someone doesn't trust us, or when someone betrays our trust?
- Restoring trust
- Is it possible to rebuild trust? How?
- What actions show that someone is trying to rebuild trust?
- How long does it usually take for trust to be rebuilt?
- Reflection
- How can we ourselves contribute to trust in the classroom or community?
