We all like it when our surroundings are beautiful, tidy, and clean. This is because we feel better ourselves in such an environment.

Slovenia is a beautiful country, and every single one of us can contribute to its beauty and cleanliness. By doing so, we show that we care about the community, the people around us, and our homeland.

When someone volunteers to take care of the environment, without anyone expecting it of them or praising them for it, such gestures are particularly worthy of respect. We have been observing such actions in Ljubljana for some time now; in the vicinity of Štepanjsko naselje and Most, near the bus station at Hofer, and also in other parts of Ljubljana.

Pia has also noticed an elderly gentleman named Vitomil, who is approximately 80 years old, for some time now. She often sees him cleaning and tidying the surroundings with a wheelbarrow, bags, a broom, a spade, and a rake. He voluntarily picks up litter, weeds the flowerbeds, and loosens the soil to help it breathe. He does all of this carefully, meticulously, and with good humour, always with a smile on his face.

Furthermore, he greatly enjoys chatting with passers-by and spreading good cheer. People like him because he is exceptionally friendly, popular, and respected. He is full of life wisdom and it's quickly apparent that he is a great lover of nature. He also likes to go to the mountains, where he also picks up rubbish, brings it with him, and then throws it in the bins.

He has great respect for nature. He cares about the environment and the neighbourhood he lives in. For this reason, he voluntarily takes care of its cleanliness. He likes being outdoors and says his day is especially good if he can also do something good for the environment.

He also says that it saddens him to see how polluted nature is. He is convinced that humans are responsible for the relationship we foster towards it. He wants to impart a simple thought to people: Let's be more aware and ensure that nature remains clean. Let's set an example for others and for ourselves with good deeds.

Mr Vitomil, with his work and attitude towards nature, is a great role model for many who encounter him in Ljubljana. May his work knock on some consciences and encourage people to look around their surroundings and also leave a small, but positive mark on nature themselves.
