Volunteering is primarily an activity where individuals selflessly help to improve the quality of life of a group, family or individual to a certain extent. This also develops a more humane, generous and warm-hearted society.
Nini Smole a friend from Gorenjska shared that she is the initiator of a collection drive to raise money for families in need. She was working with the PSO Association, Let's Help Slovenian Children. Nina thought it was a noble idea and wanted to help in some way herself. She confided in me that she thinks that not enough people help in such a more comprehensive way. This thought gave her the impetus to launch the campaign for families in Gorenjska. Nina is also involved in the village community, so it was not even a question of where and how to start.
She presented the idea and the purpose at the meeting and sent emails. This is how they started the communication and the actual action. It was agreed that they would collect food, utensils, cleaning products, clothes, toys and other practical things.
The voice quickly spread and they walked together. It was December and everyone wanted to make December as kind as possible for these needy families.
Seven families took part. The children were happy to donate toys: puzzles, dolls, cars, balls, blocks, rackets, crayons, notebooks and books. Parents went through their cupboards and donated clothes, cleaning products, dishes, household utensils, hygiene products, blankets and dry food.
In one week, they had collected enough to have a fairly full car. With a heart full of gratitude and that feeling of being told it's right and worth it, she took the stuff to Gorenjska. She was informed that all the families had received the intended help and that they were sincerely grateful and that they had been able to make the holidays just a little bit brighter.
When you help sincerely, you are rich in heart.
