This story is about the good relationships between the members of a musical group, which in reality are not just that, but over time simply become like a second family.

Because the musicians spend so much time together, both in rehearsals and concerts, but also in the studio where they create the music and elsewhere (not to mention that if the musicians have the same goals, they enjoy the same music they create), they eventually have so much in common that they start to breathe as one. We cannot get past the fact that musicians are not just colleagues, but much more than that.

Years ago, I was part of various musical groups for which the above statements are true, and I was also part of a duo, which I would like to share my story about today.

I was part of a musical duo with a guy who played mainly older blues, soul and rock hits. We played songs from Aretha Franklin to Led Zeppelin and more. We also made our own original music, which I am still proud of today.

The other half of the duo was Uroš Mohorič, who played guitar while I sang. Since I had my hands free, I wanted to use them for something else that would help to improve the repertoire. So I sometimes joined Uroš on guitar or tambourine. We were always thinking about what else we could add to our repertoire. I also played the organ for a while, but later I put it aside.

I was quite a rebellious artistic soul at that time. I wanted to follow my music and my artistic creations, so I was unemployed for a while and just did that. Unfortunately, I was more starving artist, so at some point I could say enough is enough. Because I was more tight with my finances at that time, I was really careful about what I invested my money in.

Uroš, who had no such challenges, surprised me one day with a present. I don't know if it was during St Nicholas Day or something like that, or if it was just like that. He gave me a small wooden rattle that he had bought while he was ordering equipment for himself. I was surprised and grateful because I realised how much this little rattle would add to our repertoire.

I no longer remember our dialogue at the time, but I am sure there was something in his slogan, which was quite popular between us at the time. It was: 'Why should I do something? Simply because you can!" And that said it all.

I might add that the rattle has been used from the first day I got it and has filled many a musical spot. It was a good investment, the result of a good desire to help someone who could not have afforded it at the time.

So why help someone or do one nice thing for them? Simply because you can!
