It was about twenty years ago. At that time we had a Lada car that started to deteriorate, and one day it finally failed because of its age.

Sabina tells me: »Luckily, my partner at the time and I still had a Nissan, but it was also no longer in brilliant condition. Unfortunately, other painful events in my private life happened at the same time. My partner and I broke up, and he drove off with a clear conscience in the only car that was in the house. This situation made an already difficult break-up even worse for me and my three-year-old son. At that time, my son was already in kindergarten. I was desperate to know how I was going to be able to take him to kindergarten every morning from now on, and I confided my fears to my sisters.

In the village it is more difficult, because the kindergarten was far from our home and buses run very infrequently. My sister Helena and my brother-in-law Silvo responded very quickly and without hesitation to my need and offered me their car. This car was almost reserved for sale. Not only that, they even gave it to me as a present. They were like angels who helped me and my son in our greatest need. I have never forgotten and I will never forget their kindness in giving up money, which was really not abundant at that time.«

Helena and Silvo told me that coming to Sabina's aid was the right and logical decision for them. They are happy to have been able to help her and her son.

Because we never know when we will need each other, it is very important to help each other as much as we can. It is not only material goods that have value. There is even more value in giving someone a little of our time or a nice, encouraging word. Just a smile can be priceless.

There are many small things that can change the way we look at situations and life in general. So let us not forget this wonderful value of mutual help and let us share it with each other with joy. For one of life's wisdoms says: »You can never help another person without helping yourself.«
