Ljuba, Boženka, Tanja and Darinka, all of whom have a reputation for literary creativity and membership in the Goriška Govorica Literary Club, decided to give a part of their creativity to the users of the Nova Gorica Protective Work Centre (VDC Nova Gorica) in Stara Gora during the month of culture.

The VDC Nova Gorica was happy to accept the offer, as the staff mentioned that these users are increasingly forgotten. The users were divided into two groups; on the third floor there was a group with mental disabilities and on the fourth floor there was a group with brain injuries. Ljuba and Boženka started reading with the users with brain injuries, while Tanja and Darinka started reading with the group of people with mental disabilities.

Staff prepared their clients for the meeting. They seemed to know them well and to be able to react appropriately to the reactions of individual participants, as in the case of the girl in the wheelchair who resisted listening to a fairy tale and was taken to the balcony. Most of them, however, followed the reading attentively, especially the fair-haired young girl in the wheelchair who stood very close to Darinka and Tania. She herself confirmed that she loves listening to fairy tales. As the users listened attentively, the staff served them cakes and tea as a reward.

Users with head injuries on the fourth floor participated to a greater extent. They chose their own story about bamboli and the border, read by Darinka, while Tanja read a poem about the three little suns. After the reading, they talked and reminisced about the border between Italy and Slovenia, the heavy customs and the passes. They even laughed. Not only that, but one of the users read her own story.

And because the users of the VDC Nova Gorica create different products, all four participants received a wooden bookmark as a gift.

A modest attention, a visit and a reading made the day brighter for the users. The visit itself was an event, and it was certainly a nice touch on Prešeren Day. Sometimes it takes so little to be able to give what we have, even if only a word. A word that heals and awakens pleasant feelings in a person. Life can surprise us with different situations and in this brutal world, especially vulnerable groups should not be forgotten, because sometimes all it takes is just one little bit of light to make the day brighter and more beautiful!
