The closing event of the first year of the "5 Core Values of Slovenia in Schools" project took place at Ljubljana Castle on 25 May 2026. This academic year, the project involved nine primary schools and one kindergarten from across Slovenia. Through stories, illustrations, comics, music, games, and videos, children explored the values of trust and respect, honesty, mutual help, belonging, and moderation – and proved that they understand the project slogan: "creating an environment in which we all progress.".

The event took place in a festive yet incredibly warm atmosphere. Children's Choir Glasbena matica Ljubljana I am the anthem and the song Slovenia, my homeland created touching moments of connection, and strong and wise thoughts were brought by the conversation with President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Nataša Pirc Musar, which also presented schools with plaques for successfully participating in the project. The children asked her about her childhood dreams, motorcycles, and historical figures.

Inspiring thoughts were also shared by the gathered Dr Jure Knez and Director Roman Brunšek, who emphasised the importance of teachers, cooperation, and shared responsibility in creating an environment where children can grow into compassionate, creative, and responsible individuals. Henry Adams's thought was significant: »A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.«

The creativity of children was the red thread of the event: from bilingual books and fairy tales to rap music and educational games for the youngest… View all student products from the first year of the project >>

The event was livened up by the exceptional Rok Terkaj, He sang with the choir and invited all the participants in verse to the adjacent room, where there was an exhibition of all the children's creations.

THANK YOU SCHOOLS

Few possess the courage and foresight to join a story when it's just a wish and an idea on paper. That is you. You, who dedicatedly created within the framework of these values from the very first year of the pilot project.

At this time, the vastness of children's imagination has revealed itself, the beauty of all that is good and lovely around us has been illuminated, and cooperation and creativity have been expressed. May they inspire us to create a pleasant environment together, in which we can all progress. May they serve as a pleasant reminder to us all of the creativity and beauty our children possess.

This is our sincere attempt to do something good to build a pleasant environment where we all progress and feel good. In this, it is precisely you who give us the wind in our sails of faith that this can truly happen. Everything you have shown in the first year is extraordinary.

Perhaps one day, someone, now grown up, perhaps already a grandmother or grandfather, will say: »I still remember today how we worked on values in primary school, it still stays with me today and I pass it on to my children.« This is how we will know that we have done something right on this path.
