It is a beautiful village where everyone knows each other, yet its inhabitants lacked something important - drinking water, because until then not everyone had it. Can you imagine still not having drinking water at this time? That you have to fetch it from somewhere else? Something that most people take for granted is still out of reach for some people living in more remote areas.
Despite the idyllic nature of such places, life in the higher regions is often fraught with challenges that we would not know or even think of in the city. Drinking water. "How is that even possible in this day and age, with public water networks everywhere?" you may ask. But this is not true. Unfortunately, there is no public water supply to Modric, so the villagers were left to their own devices and their own ingenuity. It was fortunate that there are still a few skilful men and boys in Pohorje who know how to use their rustic logic there is much to do.
In the summer of 2022, Dani Kangler and a few other hard-working and skilful village plumbers decided on their own to put an end to this and provide drinking water to all villagers. They decided to build a water tower, lay pipes and bring pipes and drinking water to every house. Since they were working on a voluntary basis, the aim was, of course, to get the job done at the lowest possible cost.
Of course, it has not all gone smoothly. Even before they started digging, they hit a snag - the harvest. The farmer on whose farm they were to start digging asked them to wait until the wheat was harvested first, otherwise all his efforts would go to waste. So the work was delayed a little. Once they had started, the first thing to be done was the digging, which was done by machine and, of course, on a voluntary basis, since the digger used his time and equipment without being paid for it. Then came the laying of the pipes, which was done by hand by the boys and men. Their summer looked like working on this project every day after work; some of them even during their summer holidays. It was a lot of effort and sacrifice, but it was worth it in the end. When the work was finished in early autumn, the villagers were already able to enjoy the excellent water from the Pohorje Mountains, brought by a stream from the Pohorje forests from Roga, with great relief and gratitude, and boasting exceptional quality and purity.
