In moments like this, people usually share a picture and write underneath the best team or something similar, but to me that just felt far too little.
That year, you see, I was employed in a workplace that was very mentally draining due to troubled relationships. Through a fortunate turn of events, in May I unexpectedly received a call offering me the chance to join ZAMBA Veterina as a veterinary nurse. I knew them as a client, so I knew that a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere prevailed there. The call really cheered me up, but at the same time it plunged me into severe uncertainty, as I was five months pregnant and, to top it all off, on sick leave.
And dressed like that, what? Despite this, they welcomed me into the team with open arms. And not only that. They provided me with a decent wage, good working conditions, and what meant the most to me – respectful, warm, and sincere interpersonal relations. During those three (too) short months, I went to work with joy every single day, as I didn't have a single unpleasant experience with them, and they carefully looked after me and my little bump the whole time.
All too often we hear stories of injustice, of the fear of losing one's job during pregnancy, and of poor workplace relationships. For me, this team (my second family) restored (re)newed hope that things can be done differently. Even back then, I felt it was right to highlight this experience, because I am aware that such relationships and working conditions are not to be taken for granted.
I am no longer employed by them today, as I later decided to go self-employed, but everything written here remained true even after my maternity leave ended—and still holds true today. Director Aleksandar Plavšić and veterinary clinic manager Zora Kučuković, employed at Vets4Science d. o. o., are people who prove that it is possible to establish authority with heart and respect, rather than by exploiting employees. Even when I later wanted to work part-time due to parenthood, they listened to me and enabled me to work in a field that was even more fulfilling and gave me more self-confidence for my future career path.
I am sharing this story because I want to highlight that there are employers with exceptional human breadth. I am grateful for this journey we have walked together. We are keeping in touch as friends, and I sincerely wish only the best for Acot, Zora, and the entire team.
