She was a piano teacher who believed that music only makes sense when it goes from the heart out - to the people. Her musical companion was Polde, a simple man and amateur musician who could play chords that are not in any music book; chords of humanity, authenticity and kindness.
Their musical collaboration did not start with big plans or special ambitions. They simply clicked. Lidija brought knowledge, discipline and a sense of harmony to their work together, while Polde brought the warmth that only people who play to make the world a better place have. The first time they played together, it was clear that they were not just going to play, but to create something with a meaning and purpose bigger than themselves.
From this connection, the idea for the annual concert was born. It was not a big or commercial event, but a sincere desire to raise food and funds for the underprivileged - those who live in silence, who have no voice and who rarely ask. The people of Slovenska Bistrica, Konjice and the surrounding towns were happy to join them. Someone brought a guitar, another a good will, another a chair or a cable, and a fourth animated the people. These were concerts from the heart, without big names, but with a big purpose.
Lidija always seemed calm and collected at these concerts, but deep down she had a special responsibility: to bring people together to do something good. Polde knew how to get among people, to encourage them, to make them smile and to encourage them to contribute what they could. They were the perfect duo - they couldn't have done it without each other.
One year, times were really tough. Many people were losing their jobs, social hardships were enormous. At one rehearsal, Polde said worriedly, »Lidija, I doubt we will fill the hall this year. People don't even have enough for themselves.« Lidija closed the lid of the piano, looked at it and calmly replied, »That's why we're playing. If people don't have it, that's one more reason.« And that was her greatness - to understand that goodness breathes strongest when we have the least.
The concert that year was one of the most beautiful. The hall was full of people who came because they believed in their idea. Some people just brought a packet of pasta or a few euros, but every contribution was from the heart. Lidija and Polde played with tenderness and sincerity. It was as if they put every note in the arms of a person in need. Many people wept with emotion at the melodies - not because of the music itself, but because of the feeling of warmth and belonging that we often miss in today's world.
After the concert, Lydia was approached by an elderly lady who often received help. She took her hand and said, »Thank you. You make me feel like a human being.« Lidija did not know how to answer her, she just hugged her. That quiet moment between them said more than the whole concert.
This is not a story about how Lidija and Polde saved the world. No, because they couldn't do that either. But it is the story of how they believed in good. How they were honest with their work, with people and with themselves. And in doing so, they proved that sometimes it is enough for two people to do what they know and can do - and to pay it forward.
Their concerts have become a symbol of humanity. They have shown that goodness is most often created by small people with big hearts. Lidija and Polde were such people. Their influence remained among the people who ate, survived or simply remembered that they were not alone.
