Fairy tale THE FOREST SCHOOL OF VALUES or "THAT STUBBORN LITTLE THING"; author Iva Kovač, illustrator Jera Skudnik (5th grade)

Welcome to Magic Valley, where values come to life and teach how to be kind, brave, and respectful.

This is a fairy tale about friendship, understanding and acceptance – about how with tolerance we can create a world in which everyone feels accepted.

Fairy tale Forest School of Values it was created based on an ideological and pedagogical-methodological starting point, which is represented by the fairy tale Vila Eksena – Dinosaur Tiko and the Big Tooth by Ajda Bezenšek and Miran and Ksenija Pečnik. The author primarily drew from her own experiences with children in the classroom and from concrete pedagogical situations she encounters in practice when creating it.

Fairy tale ending The song is playing The foundations are based on a real first-grader's experience and stem from the concrete academic and emotional distress that the pupil faced during the initial period of schooling. The content had been previously discussed and presented in the form of an original educational drama play. The song is playing. The educational drama game was designed according to guidelines for professionals, based on pedagogical-methodological approaches described in the handbook of the Society for Tolerant Relations, EKSENA. Humiliation is cool: A manual for professionals in education, upbringing and social care, which saw the educational drama game – and thus Šmartno pri Slovenj Gradcu Primary School – win first place.

The fairy tale holistically addresses the values that represent the 5 fundamental values of Slovenia: trust and respect, honesty, mutual aid, belonging, moderation. These values, both in the drama and in the fairy tale Forest School valuation meaningfully connects the concept of tolerance, which is still often misunderstood or oversimplified in contemporary society.

Trust and respect are shown in the story as fundamental conditions for personal progress and the achievement of desired goals – it is necessary to trust and respect oneself and others, as only then can an individual develop a sense of security, acceptance, and inner strength. Honesty with oneself and with others means that an individual genuinely acknowledges their abilities and limitations, which allows for a realistic approach to challenges and an honest path to set goals.

Mutual support is also a key element of the story, as individuals are often unable to overcome many challenges on their own, or can only do so with great difficulty. Through cooperation and support, a sense of belonging to the community is strengthened, and it is within this community that the power for both personal and wider social progress lies.

Moderation plays a key role in all of this. Excess and greater deviations are not healthy for the individual or for the community as a whole. It is precisely moderation that allows for the establishment of a balance between the individual and the community, and for long-term sustainable coexistence.
