In year 1, as part of the project, we strengthened the value of mutual aid. We first talked to the pupils about what it means to help others, why help is important, and in which situations we can help classmates, friends, or family members. The pupils also shared their experiences of when they have helped others or when someone has helped them.
This was followed by an art activity, where pupils drew an example of when they helped someone. When presenting their work, they explained to whom they had offered help and how it made them feel. The activity was designed to encourage helping, cooperation, and caring for others. Pupils developed an understanding that they could contribute to a more pleasant and connected classroom with small actions. They also recognised their own emotions in the process – most emphasised that helping others made them feel happy, proud, and content.
