She was the first teacher in my life who marked my childhood. Teacher Minka entered the classroom with that special grace. I remember that she never raised her voice over us - the little beginners. Without exception, we all loved her very much. With her, we happily overcame our first school challenges. Our classroom was not only a place where we learned to write and do maths, but also a safe haven where we learned a lot about helping each other, trust and respect.
I remember how she greeted each of us by name every morning as we came to class one after the other. She gave everyone a smile, an encouraging word and a warm look. If one of us was ever having a bad day, she was always quick to notice. Then she would sit down, look them in the eye and say, "Here I am. We can do this together. Trust me, what's weighing you down."
We got on very well. There was not much competition between us, but we always encouraged each other. I still remember her saying.Help is the best thing you can offer someone."And of course we were happy to take all her advice. Minka hugged us many times and that meant a lot to all of us.
She believed in us before we believed in ourselves. She encouraged us not to be afraid to make mistakes, because they are part of learning. "If you make a mistake, it will not be the end of the world," she told us many times.
It has never singled out the best or punished the worst. In her class, we all felt equal. We were almost like one big family. She often read us stories and we did a lot of creative work.
Today, looking back, I know that Minka was more than just a teacher. She taught us to listen, to understand, to help... I remember her smile, her warmth and the way she knew how to bring out the best in each one of us.
Thank you, teacher Minka Košnjek. Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for giving us the best possible start to our schooling. You have had a significant impact on us. You will always be in the hearts of the pupils of the 1st b class of the Primary School Davorin Jenko - Cerklje na Gorenjskem.
